01 / Overview
The site sits above the Keurbooms lagoon and is exposed to strong south-easterly winds for much of the summer.
The clients wanted a holiday house that could be opened up on calm days and closed down when the wind picks up.
02 / Design response
Rooms are arranged in an L around a pool courtyard that is shielded from the prevailing wind. Large glazed walls open the living spaces to the courtyard and the view beyond.
Robust, low-maintenance materials were chosen for the coastal climate, with timber screens that can be closed for shade and privacy.
